Welcome to the CUC BC-Yukon Office

The Canadian Unity Council (CUC) is a national, non-governmental, non-partisan organisation devoted to inform and engage all Canadians in building and strengthening Canada.

As one five regional offices across the country, the regional office for British Columbia and the Yukon initiates and collaborates with a range of partners in organizing citizen participation activities which bring diverse communities and perspectives together to learn about and discuss issues affecting the political, economic and social cohesiveness of Canada. These gatherings are informed by, and in turn inform, the public opinion polling, analysis and publications of the Council's research, information and citizen participation program - the Centre for Research and Information on Canada (CRIC) - headquartered in Montreal.

Opened in December 2001, the regional office has been active in organising roundtables, public lectures and other events in the region, as well as contributing to Council activities at the national level. Lauren Dobell

Lauren Dobell brings to the position of Regional Director for BC-Yukon a background encompassing three intertwined passions. An interest in the design of public policy in Canada, particularly in the social policy arena, has prompted career choices that included six years as a government relations consultant at the provincial and federal levels. Its international dimension is reflected in an abiding concern with public policy issues in developing countries, especially in Southern Africa, which has found expression in work with the Canadian Council for International Cooperation, Oxfam-Canada, and government and non-government agencies in Namibia, as well as in freelance journalism. Finally the promotion of civic engagement, particularly among youth, has motivated a wide range of extracurricular involvements and professional engagements, including university teaching in the area of international development.
