The Canadian Unity Council - Calgary Regional Office



	Welcome to Calgary - home of the Regional Office of the Canadian Unity Council for Alberta, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Saskatchewan. We are conveniently located downtown at 505 8th Avenue S.W, Suite 510. The Regional Director is , a native of St.Boniface Manitoba who has lived in Calgary since 1986. Prior to joining the Council, she practiced law for ten years and volunteered with many community organizations. Joining her as operations officer is Juli Ramier-Nickerson, a native of New Brunswick, who has six years of experience in office management. The Regional office relies heavily on research done by the Centre for Research and Information on Canada (CRIC) and feedback it receives from its broad and diverse network of Governors, sponsors, round table members and communities of interest to define projects and programs and to address issues of importance to the region. Through symposia, conferences, dialogue sessions, presentations and workshops, the office pursues the Council's goals of educating Canadians about federalism and Canada's institutions by fostering citizens' dialogue and engagement.		The myriad themes addressed over the years includes immigration, western alienation, the future of rural Canada, the history and role of the North, voter apathy and youth engagement. The office founded Crossroads, a sharing circle that brings together Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal women of influence who explore the challenges and opportunities facing young urban Aboriginal women. It has also founded a Young Leaders Speaker Series, which draws 150 young leaders from different backgrounds to encourage citizen engagement. The office has benefited from partnerships with many regional organizations including the Canada West Foundation, the Business Council of Manitoba, the Saskatchewan Institute of Public Policy, the Living History Society (Yellowknife), the EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Calgary. The Regional Director regularly presents to groups such as Rotary Clubs and welcomes opportunities to discuss the Council's research and bring citizens up to date on the Council's many programs. Volunteers are key to the success of activities in the region, led by the Presidents of the Provincial/Territorial Boards of Governors: Jim Palmer (Alberta), Hon. Pearl McGonigal (Manitoba), Marie Wilson (Northwest Territories) and Brian Johnston (Saskatchewan).
